Fighting Menji

A few days before the rumor of the death of Field Marshall, the Cameroonian army had launched a major military operation in Menji, in the department of Lebialem (South West region). Located about 40 km from the city of Dschang, this town is the bastion of “Red Dragons”, the armed militia at the head of which sits Field Marshall.

The fighting, which began shortly after Christmas, continued until the New Year.
Several deaths are reported by secessionists, according to the army spokesman, but Field Marshall and his men have nevertheless managed to face the Cameroonian soldiers. This former chief of the security of the kingdom of Fontem,

to whom one lends mystical powers, continues to impose himself as one of the most resistant warlords of Ambazonia.
“He is very powerful. When he was working for the king of Azi [Lebialem village], he had access to all the secrets. When he died, he almost took over as the king’s successor was in Canada, “said a man from Menji, on condition of anonymity.

Intensified struggle against Ambazonians

On social networks, Leke Oliver – aka Field Marshall – works his image. Shortly after the announcement of his death, old photos of the militia distributing food to the people for the end of year festivities were quickly broadcast by his supporters, to reassure the supporters of the Ambazonian cause and certify that he is still alive. “No one has neutralized Field Marshall. He continues the fight, he is with us, “hammered Chris Anu, spokesman for the Ambazonian government, in a publication on his Facebook page.

Presenting himself as the real defender of the Ambazonian cause, Field Marshall does not hesitate to threaten to attack other Anglophone activists. For the army, it is nonetheless only a “common criminal” that must be stopped as soon as possible. “He missed the military recruitment on two sessions, says an officer of the army. This may partly justify his actions, “he explains.

After the death of General Amigo and General Ivo, commander of the Ambazon Defense Forces (ADF), the disappearance of Field Marshall could be a serious blow to the armed struggle waged by secessionists in the English-speaking area. The army, aware of this, assures that it will make additional efforts to neutralize it.

Cameroonian forces say they are carried by the message of President Paul Biya. “If the call to lay down the weapons that I launched to war contractors remains unanswered, the defense and security forces will be instructed to neutralize them,” he said in his end-of-year speech.
