2018 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION: YAOUNDE UNDER HIGH SECURITY PENDING THE PROCLAMATION OF RESULT

The Constitutional Council proclaims, on Monday, the results of the presidential election in which, nine candidates: Paul Biya, Maurice Kamto, Cabral Libii, Joshua Osih, Akere Muna, Ndifor Afanwi, Adamou Ndam Njoya, Garga Haman Adji and Serge Hope Matomba.
The expectation of said results is in a climate of tension. This led to a strong deployment of elements of security forces in the major intersections of the two cities of Yaoundé and Douala today. Yesterday already, many policemen were deployed in the economic capital in anticipation of a prohibited demonstration. It did not happen, but at least 10 people including two journalists were arrested.
Intentions of protest began to be felt more and more in the country in the wake of the publication, on social networks, of the voting results accumulated by the National Commission for the General Census of Votes. According to these statistics, Paul Biya would win the vote with 71% of the vote, while his main rivals, Maurice Kamto and Cabral Libii would record respectively 14 and 7% of the vote.
