2018 ELECTION: NIAT NJIFENJI ABSENT AT THE PROCLAMATION GROUND
cameroondailyjournal.com|The President of the Senate is currently in Paris for medical care
Marcel Niat Njifenji, the president of the Cameroonian Senate, was represented at the ceremony announcing the results of the current presidential election at the Palais des Congrès in Yaoundé. Aboubakary Abdoulaye, the first vice-president of the Senate, takes part in his place.
Marcel Niat Njifenji, 83, is ill. More than a month ago he was in Paris to receive medical care. He voted there last October 7 despite having registered on the electoral lists in Cameroon.
The images of Marcel Niat Njifenji in the Paris polling station were widely circulated on the web. He appeared very thin and weak and his bodyguards had to support him from time to time.
This public man is the second person in the country. According to the constitution of the country, he is the one who must assume the responsibilities of head of state in case of vacancy in the presidency of the Republic.
If today Marcel Niat Njifenji is fine, it was not the case less than a month ago. A crazy rumor had announced him dead as a result of illness. It was not so, but its situation was very worrying.
